Sweden celebrates OGAE Second Chance Contest 2018 with a spectacular Final Show
This Saturday, October 13th at 20 hrs (CEST) the show that will reveal the winner of OGAE Second Chance 2018 will be broadcast on social media. OGAE Sweden Melodifestivalklubben are the proud hosts of the contest this year. They promise a night to remember for all true Eurovision fans, filled with surprises, excitement both for those who love OGAE Second Chance Contest but even for those who haven’t cared anything about this contest before!
This year Eskilstuna is the official host city. Last Friday, as part of OGAE Sweden’s Annual Meeting, the show was recorded in front of a live international audience of true Eurovision fans who were able to experience the final of OGAE Second Chance Contest 2018 at Sundbyholmstravet. The show will feature several surprises and three guest artists. At the end of the show – when all the juries have given out their points – we will know the winner of OGAE Second Chance Contest 2018!
OGAE Sweden Melodifestivalklubben let a young enthusiastic project team from the club take care of the preparations for the contest, but also hired a professional production crew from Grander Media in order to ensure a technically high quality TV show worth watching for all Eurovision fans out there.
”I’m so amazed and proud of what we achieved in Eskilstuna last Friday. The audience loved it,” says OGAE Sweden president Alexander Borodin, who is also Executive Supervisor for the contest this year.
”The end result is fun, creative, smart, made with passion by a very talented and energetic team. We felt that this Contest deserved a Second Chance, one can say. We also strived very hard to actually get every single OGAE club to take part in the competition as this is an important part of OGAE fan culture. We actually managed, and are proud to have all 44 clubs participating.”
OGAE SCC project manager Emma Hellgren adds “we became inspired by our friends in Poland last year when they made a live show with an audience in Warsaw. This year we made that concept even bigger and planned and prepared a lot for it. We have created a show that celebrates OGAE and Eurovision fans, added more glamour, excitement and the true spirit of Eurovision. The result is something that Eurovision fans will love.”
The hosts this year are William Schmatz, a talented young actor and presenter at events from Ystad, and Zara Zeidlitz, a professional dancer from Gothenburg. ”Our dream is to be hosts of Melodifestivalen in the near future, or maybe another national competition in Europe. Of course, our ultimate dream would be Eurovision. SVT or EBU please watch this!” say William and Zara.

“The OGAE Second Chance Contest (SCC) is organised by OGAE to give a “second chance” to songs which were part of a national selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) but which failed to be selected to represent their country.”

Mariette’s win in Warzawa last year with the entry “A million Years” became a record win in the Second Chance history with 329 points. It also marked Swedens 15th victory in this competition. It’s time to celebrate it with a great show in Eskilstuna in October.
The new voting system:
The new voting system can easily be described as this:
– The announcement of the points has been divided into two different parts. In the first part, the points from the 27 competing countries will be announced. In the second part, the points from the 17 guest countries will be announced.
– The first part will work as the usual ”jury results sequence” in Eurovision. The 27 competing countries will award their points, and each country gives 1-8, 10 and 12 points (of which the 12 points will be announced by that country’s spokesperson).
– The second part will work as the ”televoting results sequence” in Eurovision. Every country will still be giving out 1-8, 10 and 12 points, but the points in the second part will be ANNOUNCED in a different way. All the points from the guest countries will be added together, and the points for each country will then be announced, starting with the country with the lowest score from the 17 guest countries. After that, the list continues with the country with the second lowest score from the 17 guest countries, and so on. The country with the highest score from the 17 guest countries will be announced last.
This new method is similar to the system in Eurovision. With this system, the winner will be announced at the very end of the voting sequence, and because of that, we hope that the atmosphere will be as tense as in Eurovision until the very end.
Remember that there are still no ”professional jury” or ”televotes” in the competition. All the votes come from members in all different OGAE clubs.
Every country has the same amount of ”power”, since every country will award points to 10 songs on the scale 1-8, 10 and 12 points (a total of 58 points).
More details about the new voting system (and also everything in a structured way):
The 27 competing countries:
- 1566 points to give out.
- Every country gives out 1-8, 10 and 12 points. In total, each country will be giving out 58 points.
- The announcement of the points: The 1-8 and 10 points will be shown directly on the screen and the scoreboard. The 12 points will be announced by the country’s spokesperson. The system for the announcement of the points from the 27 competing countries is similar to the ”jury results sequence” in Eurovision.
The 17 guest countries/guest juries:
- 986 points to give out.
- Every country gives out 1-8, 10 and 12 points. In total, each country will be giving out 58 points.
- The announcement of the points: All the points from the guest countries will be added together, and the points will then be announced and given out to each country. The country that got the lowest score from the 17 guest countries will get their points first. After that, the list continues with the country that got the second lowest score from the 17 guest countries, and so on. In other words, the list goes from the lowest score to the highest score. The country that got the highest score from the 17 guest countries will get their points last. The system for the announcement of the points from the 17 guest countries is similar to the ”televoting results sequence” in Eurovision.
More information about the voting system:
- There are two different parts of the announcement of the points. In the first part, the points from the 27 competing countries will be announced. In the second part, the points from the 17 guest countries will be announced.
- The winner will be announced after the last points have been announced, which is after the country that got the highest score from the 17 guest countries has got their points. It’s first then the final result can be seen on the scoreboard, not before.
- In total, there are 2552 points to give out.
- The highest amount of points a single country can get is 516 points, which is 12 points from each voting country (except for the own country).
- You’re not allowed to vote on your own country.
- Remember that there are no ”professional jury” or ”televotes” in the competition. All the votes are coming from members in all different OGAE-clubs.
A couple of dates to remember:
March 31 – Final confirmation of participation
